Critical to supporting mobility and independence!

Many people do not understand the importance of routine stretching in maintaining health and wellness. Stretching is critical! We all need to ideally stretch daily in order to protect our mobility and maintain activities of daily living across many areas. Stretching is especially important as we grow older to support mobility and independence.
So why is stretching so important?
Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, and flexibility is critical in maintaining a wide range of joint functions. When we lack flexibility our muscles shorten overtime and then become tight which then impacts complete range of motion and overall functionality. Tight muscles inhibition full joint use and full range of motion which then leads to challenges.
So practically - when you do not stretch and you decide to play pickleball or do another somewhat strenuous activity and these tightened muscles are forced to suddenly stretch they may become damaged resulting in injury. And overtime these Injured muscles may become too weak to support the joints, which can lead to joint injury and mobility challenges.
So make stretching part of your day everyday! Do a simple head to toe streching routine which can be done standing or as a part of chair exercise. Roll out your jlints also along the wayasthis will help to relieve muscle tightness, soreness, help to lubricate joint spaces, and decrease inflammation. Thsi will also increase joint range of motion.
If you are having challenges with transfers, balance or ambualtion reach out today as we can help in putting in place a plan to support indepenence and your optimum level of functionality!
